Burberry Make-up’s Artistic Consultant shares her quintessential makeup tips.

What comes down the Burberry Prorsum runway is much more than divine trench coats. From metallic soot-grey smoky eyes to creamy apple-bitten red lips, the beauty looks aren’t afraid to steal the show. The woman you’ll find backstage is none other than international makeup artist and Burberry Make-up’s Artistic Consultant, Wendy Rowe. Now that the fashion house’s makeup collection has traveled across the pond and is available at Sephora, we wanted to better acquaint ourselves with the artist responsible for the looks donned by our favorite It Girl models. The London-born Rowe has also worked closely with Burberry Creative Director Christopher Bailey to develop the line, so be sure to take close notes on which of the products she personally wears every day. The Sephora Glossy conversed with Rowe on her classic Burberry look, what celebs request the most, and which Burberry beauty products you’ll fancy to add to your bag.

Tell us about your first beauty memory.

When I was in the third year at school I did a fashion project, I was about 10. I cut and pasted images from magazines using my Mum’s dressmaking scissors and wrote about fashion styles—I was obsessed!

How did you come to be a makeup artist?

I studied graphics and found it wasn’t creative enough, so I went back to college and studied to be a makeup artist, but I didn’t know what that entailed until I started working—and here I am 20 years later!

You’ve worked with many famous clients. What are top requests or concerns you hear? How do you use Burberry make-up to help?

Everyone is concerned with how to get better skin, with or without makeup. I always recommend feeding the skin from within and obviously looking after your skin. Burberry products are great for this because they are lightweight and breathable and also protect, plus they give an effortless, flawless finish.

What does the Burberry make-up brand mean to you?

It means effortless makeup that allows anyone, not only experts, to achieve a flawless finish with modern makeup.

Can you tell us what you love about the Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base—and your favorite way to apply it?

I think it gives any skin color a natural, healthy glow, and I love applying it like a moisturizer over the face and neck.

What are your most life-changing makeup tips and tricks—and how do you incorporate them with Burberry make-up?

The most life-changing element for me has been the ability to produce makeup that is weightless, yet provides coverage. You can still feel your skin under it. In terms of a groundbreaking product, it will have to be Burberry Face Contour – Effortless Contouring Pen Face & Eyes. We have really been able to achieve the ultimate product to sculpt and enhance the shape of the face effortlessly.

Tell us about the Burberry make-up products you’re the most obsessed with.

Burberry Face Contour – Effortless Contouring Pen Face & Eyes and Burberry Fresh Glow B.B. Cream Broad Spectrum 20 are must-haves I use on myself every day.

What is your signature or your favorite look to create?

The hero look I’ve created for Burberry is soft almond eyes with glowing skin and contoured face. Anyone can wear that.

What’s the #1 thing you think people do incorrectly when it comes to beauty?

Wearing too much foundation or a foundation that is the wrong type for their skin—this instantly ages you.

We’re excited about the Cashmere foundation, Lip Velvet Lipstick, and Face Contour. Can you explain to us what’s so amazing about these three new products?

Burberry Cashmere is amazing for oily skin. Darker skintones profit from this massively. Burberry Lip Velvet Lipstick is great for a red lip. I love this because it reminds me of a deep red rose and is so classic. Burberry Face Contour – Effortless Contouring Pen Face & Eyes is mistake-proof. It creates natural shadows, has no hard lines, and can be used to change the shape of the face, enhance your jawline, or give the illusion of bigger eyes.
