What’s new in Sephora PRO artist Julie Taing’s tool kit.
What inspired you to become a makeup artist?
“When I saw how makeup can transform someone—from changing a person into a character to changing their mood. There is so much power in a simple lipstick. I saw makeup as my true calling to empower people to see their own beauty. The moment I saw how makeup could really make someone’s day, I knew this is what I wanted to be.”
What’s your first beauty memory?
“Going makeup shopping with my mom when I was a young girl and being so amazed at all the color. I always loved during New Years when my mom would put makeup on me for the pictures and I felt so beautiful and confident. That feeling has always stuck with me and is why I got into the beauty industry. I want people to experience what I got to experience as a young girl.”
How would you describe your personal beauty style?
“Fresh, effortless, and natural. I keep things very minimal and quick. I’ll wear a bright red pair of heels and keep my makeup very nude, fresh, and natural. Or I’ll wear all black and wear a bold berry lip with a cat eye.”
“I will always be a huge fan of lips. I’m certain I own almost all the reds and berries carried in Sephora. So, for this season, what’s new in my makeup bag is this limited-edition set. I’m always traveling and would rather pick sleep over getting up an hour earlier, so it’s very easy for me to feel ready for my day once I have lipstick on. I love [the shade] Fanny because it’s a beautiful fuchsia. Charlotte is one of my favorites because I will always be a red lipstick girl. It’s my signature.”
“I’m always in the market to try the next best highlighter and any new product to achieve glowing skin. My skin is so dry that I live for fake-it products.”
“Two major reasons I love cream contouring are that it’s easy and it looks like skin. It has a variety of shades, so you can really personalize the intensity for that day. Playing with all the different hues creates dimension, giving you a sunkissed look.”
“I am pretty minimal with my eye makeup, but when I do wear some, it’s just eyeliner. I love these eyeliners because they’re travel size and are incredibly pigmented and waterproof. I like to add the black or brown on the top of my eyelid and a color onto the bottom outer corner for a mod look. These liners are also great makeup bases for longevity and also to make eyeshadows pop even more.”
“This scent always makes me feel so pretty and feminine, but confident. Perfume is so intimate to me that I find it’s an extension of me. And this fragrance hits the sweet spot in making me feel good every time I wear it.”
THE HOLIDAY BEAUTY TIP
“The easiest way to make any beauty look instantly more festive is to add some sparkle. As your finishing touch, you can add glitter liner to the top lid, or a highlighter to your cheeks, or a high-shine gloss to your lips. It takes a matter of seconds and your look is now festive.”
