X-RAY: TOO FACED LOVES SEPHORA

X-RAY: TOO FACED LOVES SEPHORA

Too Faced founder Jerrod Blandino on Too Faced’s limited-edition 15th anniversary palette.

1998 was a beautiful year: Sephora made its US debut, and Too Faced made its global debut. To celebrate the fact that we’re both turning the big 1-5, founder Jerrod Blandino and his team worked with Sephora to create this very special palette. And how did Blandino celebrate his own Sweet 15? “A limo picked me and my friends up from school and we went to the Hard Rock Café!” HOLLY SIEGEL

THE SHADOW SHADES

Piano Keys
“Piano keys are the iconic black and white stripes of the Sephora brand,” says Blandino.

So Cal
“The birthplace of Too Faced!”

TF <3s the Cast
“We’re always so inspired by the cast—a.k.a. Sephora store employees—not only by the incredible expertise, artistry, and service that they provide in store every day, but they’re also always willing to collaborate and share their ideas and suggestions!”

Jer Jer
“This is short for me, Jerrod, and Jeremy, my co-founder of Too Faced and partner for 18 years! Jer Jer is what our parents call us and what we go by for short.”

Behind the Counter
“Jeremy and I started working behind the makeup counter at department stores, where we saw firsthand how the power of makeup can transform a woman and build confidence. We loved seeing how empowering makeup could be and that’s what inspired us to start Too Faced.”

SoHo
“The location of Sephora’s first store in the US and still one of my favorite places to shop!”

525 Market
“The address for the Sephora offices in San Francisco, a place we have visited regularly for the past 15 years and where some of our greatest ideas and collaborations have begun. We call it The Mothership!”

Envy
“Envy was a cartoon girl I drew in silhouette that became part of our logo.”

David & Marg
“David Suliteanu, Sephora’s CEO, and Margarita Arriagada, head merchant. Two of the greatest in the beauty biz, both have been incredibly generous with their support and advice over the years. They are our fairy godparents. We totally heart them!”

1998
“The year we were born and the year we joined Sephora.”

THE OTHER GOODIES
“We wanted to include some of our iconic products from the past 15 years in addition to the 10 limited-edition, exclusive eye shadows that are in the set, so we added our bestselling Chocolate Soleil and Sun Bunny Bronzers and Who’s Your Poppy Blush. There’s our groundbreaking Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer to ensure your shadows are crease-proof and last for up to 24 hours. And an exclusive, mini Flatbuki Brush made with our cruelty-free Teddy Bear Hair.”

THE FACE CHARTS (NOT SHOWN)
“This was one of the most rewarding parts of the process! We turned over the palette to the Sephora PRO Artistry Team and asked them to create 15 looks to show the versatility and represent every trend and look that’s achievable with it. You’ve got everything from a more natural day look in The Melanie (Named after Sephora’s VP of education) to the more nighttime, fashion look like The Gilbert Girl (named after Sephora’s PRO Team Artist Gilbert Soliz.) Each look is named after one of the many talented, passionate, and supportive Sephora employees whom we’ve worked with over the 15 years. It was tough because there are so many more than 15 we are grateful for: Alexa, Carolyn, Betsy, the list goes on and on!”

HIDDEN MESSAGES
“There’s a special message to our Sephora merchant, Jen Cohen, hidden in the artwork on the tin. She manages our business and helped us create this palette over a year ago. Take a close look to see if you can spot it!”
